Our Story

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, the self-made entrepreneur Sukari started her self-titled brand Sukari Lyema in 2020. Left to deal with the ways of the world and one semester left at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Sukari decided to step out on faith and use the money she had been saving to study abroad to start her business. She invested in machinery and began making custom handbags in her parent's basement. She received an overwhelming amount of love in support after showcasing her senior thesis collection on social media; and decided to launch her website shortly after and make select pieces of her collection available to the public.
Sukari Lyema is not just a business venture for Sukari, It's her passion! She designs handbags for the women who take up space, the bosses, the leaders, the go-getter, the it girls! Sukari saw a vacancy in the market for black-owned luxury accessories brands, and it is her mission to fulfill it. While this is just the beginning of her journey, there is no doubt that she will be a force to be reckoned with.
